DNS registry attack on Web3 domains
Several DeFi (decentralized finance is financial tools on blockchain) applications have been targeted in a cyberattack on the Domain Name System (DNS).
The attackers attempted to steal user tokens by redirecting them to a malicious website. This occurred on Compound, a lending platform built on the Ethereum blockchain. Fortunately, the attack was successfully prevented.
Blockaid, an organization focused on security of companies in Web3, has reported that
“several DeFi interfaces are at risk of being hacked, and several incidents have already occurred.”
DefiLlama, a DeFi information aggregator, has compiled a list of potentially affected domains. The list includes more than 100 applications, including Pendle Finance, dYdX, Polymarket, Satoshi Protocol, Nirvana, LooksRare, and others.
Wallet MetaMask has warned users about the possible risks.
Why should you care? ICANN dedicates a significant amount of time and effort to combatting DNS abuse. Despite this, the issue remains a pressing concern. In such circumstances, companies managing domain zones must enhance their security monitoring, while users should exercise caution when accessing third-party websites.
For companies managing domain zones, it is crucial to implement advanced security technologies, such as DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions), and regularly update software to mitigate vulnerabilities. Additionally, educating and informing users about potential risks and protection methods plays a vital role in the fight against DNS abuse.

Liquid Domains Market Report Q2 2024
Analyst Giuseppe Graziano published an overview of the liquid domains market for Q2 2024.
Liquid domains are those that contain 2-3 letters, 2-4 numbers, or any combination of 2 symbols, or 4 letters, 5 numbers, or any combination of 3 symbols. Only domains in the .com zone are considered.
The report presents two types of data: Public Disclosed Sales and Escrow.com (an online escrow service) sales.
According to the publicly disclosed sales, the amount of sales in this market decreased by 38.5% to $3 million. However, Escrow reported an increase of 10% to $19.8 million. Since the Escrow service provides data on a larger number of sales compared to the Public Disclosed Sales, we can conclude that the market for liquid domains was successful.
The highest sales were recorded among domains with 3 letters (8.2 million dollars) and 4 letters (10 million dollars).
The minimum price for a 4-letter domain is 109 dollars.
Why should you care? Experts often advise choosing short domain names because they are more valuable. They are easy to remember and pronounce.
Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer available liquid domains every year. So, if you need a short name, you may have to pay a high price or even wait for a long time until the name becomes available. However, you might want to consider alternative domain extensions like .it.com.

X Updates the Thread Ranking with a New Rating Feature
Elon Musk’s company X (ex-Twitter) is working on a feature that allows users to rate answers in a thread. This feature will help improve the ranking of the best replies and move less popular ones down the thread. However, it isn’t clear whether X will allow downvotes for all messages or not.
Additionally, the company has hidden likes from public view, allowing people to like more edgy content without affecting their image.
Why should you care? Generation Z tends to use social media platforms for searching information, so it’s not surprising that such platforms as X strives to improve content rankings by offering users truly engaging and relevant content.
This means that companies should invest more time and effort into what they share on social media platforms, taking greater responsibility for the content they publish.
