.MU, Entering a New Global Marketing Phase
- by Joe Alagna

Through a Strategy and Marketing Agreement with it.com Domains, .MU will be promoted internationally as:
.MU — Everyone’s Music Domain
This positioning is designed to make .MU more visible to the global music ecosystem, including artists, creators, labels, venues, streaming platforms, publishers, fan communities, music technology companies, festivals, and brands connected to music and culture.
Before broader marketing begins, .MU will conduct a Trademark Priority Period from:
May 15, 2026 through June 28, 2026
This period is intended to give trademark owners, intellectual property professionals, and brand protection agencies notice of the relaunch and an opportunity to review relevant trademark strings in the .MU namespace.
- This is not a traditional Sunrise or Landrush event. .MU is an existing ccTLD with existing registrations in the zone. The Trademark Priority Period is an awareness and priority communications initiative designed to help trademark interests take appropriate action before .MU is marketed more broadly as a music-focused domain.
- The .MU registry service provider is Identity Digital.
- New .MU policies are being finalized and will be posted at nic.mu in the coming weeks. .MU is also signing a memorandum of understanding with WIPO to manage domain name disputes.
- .MU will be present with it.com Domains at the INTA Annual Meeting in London, May 3–6, 2026, to brief trademark professionals, registrars, brand protection agencies, and other interested parties.
- Registrars will be free to market and administrate this as they wish. There is no "sunrise" fee.
- Proof of trademark or SMD files are not being required. We suggest a simple "attestation of trademark" from registrants claiming to have a trademark and our terms will state that proof will be required in the case of any dispute.
- The registry operates on a standard first-come, first-served basis.
Program details will be circulated to registrars and posted at nic.mu in the coming weeks.
For registrars and brand protection providers, we encourage you to notify relevant clients and review any trademark strings that may be appropriate for registration during the Trademark Priority Period.
