World Chess, with the support of it.com Domains, organized the Clash of Blames — a rematch between former world champion Vladimir Kramnik and a rising star in the online chess world , Jose Martinez.

A rematch between Kramnik and Martínez took place in London from August 19-21, 2024. The event  aimed to address the ongoing debate over the credibility of online chess competition The format included 36 blitz games, split between over-the-board and online matches held on ChessArena.com. The focus was on fair play, with Pinkerton ensuring the integrity of the competition.

The rematch between Kramnik and Martínez, known as the ‘Clash of Blames,’ arose from prior allegations made by Kramnik against Martínez, questioning fair play in online games. The players first met during the Clash of Claims event, but due to technical issues with the hosting platform, they did not finalize this dispute. World Chess organized a rematch — Clash of Blames — to determine whether online cheating is a reality or merely a grandmasters’ delusion.

The Clash of Blames lasted for three days, during which players played six online games and six over-the-board games every day. Vladimir Kramnik and Jose Martinez both showed a decent game. In the end, Kramnik defeated Martinez with a 19-17 score.
